Romania June 2016: Sales drop 37%, Dacia Logan at lowest ever share
Whereas the Romanian market improved by 16% over the
first 5 months of the year, it comes to a abrupt halt in June with deliveries
crashing down 37% year-on-year to 5.462 units. According to local media, a
possible explanation for this sudden fall is the three months delay of the
RABLA governmental programme for national car fleet renewal. Local manufacturer
Dacia is the hardest hit and the main culprit for this sharp drop with volumes
down 69% to 998 sales, whereas parent company Renault is up 14% to 679, Skoda
down 9% to 555, Ford down 6% to 456 and Volkswagen down 44% to 442. Mercedes
(+34%), BMW (+20%), Audi (+26%), Suzuki (+21%) and Volvo (+52%) go against the
grain and post hefty gains.
Despite
Dacia’s weakness, the Logan is not toppled from its perennial top spot, signing
an incredible 142nd consecutive month in pole position – the 12 year mark will
in all likeliness be reached this August. However its 9.1% market share is its
lowest ever recorded since the nameplate’s original launch in September 2004 and its very first in
the single digits (previous lowest was 11.8% in February 2013). Its 498 June volume is not its lowest
ever though (170 in January 2010). The Renault Clio leaps 4 spots on May to
#2 overall with 6.2% share ahead of the Skoda Octavia at 4.9% and Ford Focus at
4.8% whereas the Dacia Duster, #2 year-to-date, drops to #5 followed by the
Dacia Dokker. The Renault Captur is up 23 spots to #7 and the Kia Sportage up
22 to #12.
